Little Court

5 Westleaze, Charminster, Dorchester DT2 9PZ, UK – 01305 261576

Little Court is lovely Edwardian B&B just outside Dorchester. A warm welcome is received to this charming place. A welcome hall/guest sitting area has a fire and sofas to sit and read the daily newspapers and stairs leading to the 8 or so rooms. Our room had a view over the 4 acres of gardens which includes a tennis court and a swimming pool. Breakfast in the morning was cereal, full English and toast, with tea, coffee and fruit juices available. We enjoyed our stay immensely and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Beautiful grounds and comfortable. Don't think it's worth the money, unless you stay in summer to be able to use outdoor pool. Be warned, it states breakfast is included, however we were charged another twenty pounds. It okay cost twenty four pounds for an evening meal. Although a very nice place, we will not be staying there again.

The Gamekeeper

16 North St, Charminster, Dorchester DT2 9QZ, UK – 01305 459349

Lovely pub, with lovely garden and good selection of food for a reasonable price. Very clean, tidy with friendly staff. Food was nicely presented and decent sized portions. Steak came cooked as had been asked. Could have done with providing steak knives and a wine menu, but nothing major on a big ship.

Nice pub. Enjoyed Sunday carvery lunch a couple of times lately choice of 3 meats plenty of veg etc. But would get tired of it if going too often

Waterfield House

Waterfield House Bradford Peverell, Charminster DT2 9SA, UK – 01305 267423

A beautiful tranquil spot. An absolute oasis for those who need a break. Well recommended.

Had such a lovely stay and wish we could have stayed longer, Nicky is such a amazing host and honestly felt like we'd known her for years! Perfect surrounding and the room was so clean and tidy. Our stay was made even better by her having a puppy. Would defiantly be booking a stay here again if we are ever down that way again

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Charminster Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Sun Inn

Lower Burton, Dorchester DT2 7RZ, UK – 01305 250445

This Inn is really good! The carvery is amazing, the drinks are good and it has a children's play area which looks quite fun! Would recommend this! Only flaws were the queues at the bar to order drinks and food and also that the beer tasted a little too watery.

Great food and service. Friendly staff good atmosphere. Small and very busy place recommend book in advance.

You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Green Valley Yurts - Glamping in Dorset

Longmeadow, Godmanstone, Dorchester DT2 7AE, UK – 07970 298427

Lovely site. Everything is done in a conscientious way. Good for the environment and good for guests. Beautiful walks.

What a stunningly beautiful setting and a very lovely collection of Yurts and bell tents. The owners are clearly very keen to provide you with a really pleasant and relaxed getaway in a beautiful environment. There are three Yurts in one field near the main large hut which is a kitchen and toilets and a communal shower and another separate bathing room with a bath. It's a perfect spot for kids with the Yurts having enough room to sleep up to five and one I believe sleeps seven. Only thing bring your eye mask as the Yurts are open to the sky around the centre of the roof with a plastic cover but no way of covering it. It would be great to have that option as the light does come in very early. The bell tents also looked very lovely and comfortable and all three are in a field next door a short walk away. The vegan cafe down the road has very interesting food and some great sweet treats. Lots of interesting places like Durdle Door and Corfe Castle are within driving distance and we really recommend going to Cerne Abbas only ten minutes away not just for the wonderful chalk drawing but also the pub the Royal Oak which the cafe owners recommended and it was really delicious the Sunday roast.
